Spaces for hire

The Salisbury Centre has six spaces for hire in a stone house and garden on Salisbury Road: the Studio, the Art Room, the Library, the Wellspring Room, the Garden Room, and the garden itself with its fire pit. They are used for courses, classes, events, therapy, study and meditation.

Rooms can be hired between 08:00 and 22:00 any day, and the building must be fully vacated by 22:00. Weekday daytime hire until 17:00 is charged at the off-peak rate; weekday evenings from 17:00 and the whole weekend are charged at the peak rate. There is a minimum charge of one hour for any room, and a two-hour minimum for the Studio at weekends before 17:00. After the first hour, hire is charged in half-hour steps.

Please include your setting-up and packing-away time in the booking. We leave a fifteen-minute changeover between bookings for cleaning and ventilation, but that time is not yours to use — another group may be in the room straight after you, even if the timetable does not show it.

The kitchen and the garden are shared by everyone in the building and there is no charge for them. A projector, screen and loudspeakers can be added to a room booking, and the garden can have a marquee and firewood; we will confirm those charges with your invoice. Storage is limited and charged separately — please ask the office.

A few things to know before you book. There is no reception service: you welcome your own group and answer the door to them, and you are responsible for leaving the room as you found it. No alcohol, smoking or vaping anywhere on the premises, including the garden. No loud music or drumming after 21:00, and please keep the entrance hall, corridors and stairwells quiet — someone nearby is very likely meditating. All hirers sign our Code of Conduct, which we send during booking, and facilitators and therapists new to the Centre are asked to meet us first and to send in their insurance and qualifications.

The Centre has an accessible entrance and an accessible toilet on the ground floor, with level access for wheelchair users. Every space except the Studio is on the ground floor; the Studio is up a flight of stairs. We are continuing to improve the building’s accessibility — please get in touch if you need a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan form.

Chairs, blankets, yoga mats, meditation cushions, stools and zafus are all in the room, and foldable tables are stored at the top of the stairs. A projector, screen and loudspeakers can be added to your booking.

The Studio is on the upper floor and is reached by stairs. Weekend daytime hire has a two-hour minimum; at other times the minimum is one hour. No loud music or drumming after 21:00.

Please note that the library is not a common area — it is yours for the booking, and it is your responsibility to tell your group which parts of the building they may use. The Studio may be in use on weekday evenings and at weekends, which can carry some noise; if you are considering private hire of the Library, please talk to the office first.

Garden / Fire Pit

Capacity: 100 people
Pricing: £0.00-£23.00 per hour

Our beautiful tranquil community Garden is a lovely place to take a break during workshops and events. Sit on our patio, wander around our permaculture garden and vegetable beds, or sit quietly by the pond or ancient holy well.

The lawn and the fire pit are what you book here, and the booking includes use of the kitchen and the toilets. A marquee can be added for weather cover, and firewood can be bought separately. The fire pit is lit only with a member of staff’s permission, or by a private event that has booked it.

The garden stays open to everyone else using the Centre, so this is not exclusive use — please be mindful of anyone in the Library or the Garden Room, and of our neighbours. There is a pond, so children and animals must not be left unsupervised. A cancellation for weather at short notice is charged in full, so if your event cannot go ahead in poor weather, please book an indoor room as a backup.
